"In December 2009, I went on a Children's Hope Chest vision trip. We traveled to Kombolcha, Ethiopia which is approxiately 7 hours by car from Addis Ababa. There our team met 300 children many of whom are orphaned, having lost a mom or a dad or both to AIDS or other illnesses. Many of these orphaned and vulnerable children are only able to eat a few times a week because of extreme poverty. The children had trouble concentrating in school because they are hungry. When they thought we were not looking we saw them pull up grass and eat it. These precious children needed food to survive, grow, and thrive.
I soon became a Children's Hope Chest sponsorship coordinator, findings sponsors and matching sponsors with children at Grace Baptist Church. A sponsorship fee ($34 monthly) provides resources for children to receive at least one meal a day, school supplies, a school uniform, basic medical care, Christian discipliship and an education! Sponsors not only offer monthly support, but encouragement through prayer, letter writing, and relationship. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please contact me, Candy, at [email protected]. At this time, we have an urgent need for sponsors so all the children may flourish. I will match you with a child, send you a photo and information about your sponsor child along with instructions on how to register as that child's sponsor.
Rob and I will be visiting Kombolcha yearly. We visited in May of this year delivering sponsor care packages to the children. Our first trip with sponsors will be in April 2012. We will spend time with the children at our care point. We will shower them with love, spend time with them, play games, share care packages and letters from their sponsor families. On our last day we will have a feast with the children and staff. We invite sponsors, friends, family and anyone with a heart for children to join us on a trip. Sponsors have the amazing experience of meeting their sponsor child face-to-face!
